AbstractThis is an odyssey of sorts carrying one from the age of steam power and of human, horse and ox muscle power of the eighteen and early nineteen hundreds, into the onset of the automatic, electronic and space age. All this with (at the time) seemingly undramatic daily living. Has there ever been, and will there ever again be, a similar profound change in man's allotted lifetime? Gustav Bohstedt was born in the village of Gnissau, Luebbeck, in Holstein, North Germany, in 1887. Chapters include: Childhood in a Holstein Village (1887-1902), Farming in Iowa (1902-1905), Ranching in West Texas (1905-1908), Preparing for College (1908-1911), Student Years (1911-1915), Epilogue, and Germany Revisited.
