NotesWith "Was There Anything to Learn? American Historians and German Medieval Scholarship: A Comment," by Otto Gerhard Oexle.
AbstractIn this 1995 lecture from the German Historical Institute in Washington D.C., the author traces the influence of German medievalists on American scholarship. He also analyzes how the perception and interpretation of German medieval history by American historians were shaped by their attempt to explain American history. The corresponding comment by Oexle speaks to whether or not American medievalists can learn anything from German medieval scholarship.
