| Abstract | The "Society for the protection of German Immigrants in Texas," also known as the "Texas Association" or the "Nobles Club of Mainz," was probably the most notorious and spectacular of its kind among the German emigration and settlement projects leading German Citizens to North America in the 19th century. Although responsible for great misery among many hopeful emigrants and the death of approximately 3,000 of them, this organization neverteless became the nucleus to a prospering German American settlement in this part of the United States.... Along with contemporary particulars about Texas, the instructions for immigrants, the new maps and the panorama view of New Braunfels, this reprint is a valuable document which, in retrospect, may offer important information on the German immigration movement to North America.
