AbstractThe author demonstrates the role culture plays in the land-use and land-transfer decisions of farm families. Drawing from her research on family farmers in the Midwest, she discusses how issues such as land as a commodity or a resource, the rights of children to family land, and the social statement made by landownership reflect different ethnic and cultural values, including that of German Americans.
