AbstractA 19th-century view of German immigrants and their assimilation into the United States' West, where they "are as thick as autumn leaves; they cover the country and swarm in the city." The article offers perspectives on how Germans affected American culture and lifestyle, and the author speculates on how the country will change as a result of Germans' presence.
