AbstractThis study starts by tracing the historic development of religio-ethnic groups. German Catholics, German Lutherans, Scandinavian Lutherans, Polish Catholics, and Yankee Protestants are the main groups which settled Wisconsin. Wisconsin is unique in the nation by virtue of its high proportions Catholic and Lutheran, and its high proportions German, Scandinavian, and Polish. Church attendance in Wisconsin is found to be higher than in the nation as a whole over the past ten years, although attendance rate declines were more rapid in the state than the nation. Integration into family and social institutions is correlated with frequent church attendance and membership.
