AbstractThis work describes the German role in the discovery, exploration, and early settlement of America. The first Germans to land in what would become the U.S., arrived at Port Royal, South Carolina, in 1562. Group immigrations began in the 1600s. This work also describes the conditions in Germany prior to 1700 which contributed to the German immigrations to America. This new edition has been updated by Don Heinrich Tolzmann to include a new introduction about the life and work of Julius Friedrich Sachse and the field of German-American Studies.
