AbstractThis article chronicles the gunsmiths who lived and worked in York County, Pennsylvania, from late in the colonial era to the middle years of the nineteenth century, including brief biographical sketches of each gunsmith (in alphabetical order), as well as photographs and drawings. The history of gun making in Pennsylvania resolves itself into three distinct periods, the first one being the time of transition from the European models, followed by what has been termed the Golden Age of the craft, which was succeeded by the percussion era.
