AbstractThis book is based on excerpts from the diary of Father Wendelin Gruber, a Catholic priest who was an eyewitness to the systematic extermination of the Danube Swabians (ethnic Germans) of Yugoslavia by the Tito regime during, and in the years immediately following, World War II. This atrocity claimed the lives of over 100,000 people, or 50% of those who remained at home when the Communists took power. On a per capita basis the Danube Swabians suffered a greater loss of life than any European people in recent history.
