AbstractHelbich's article discusses the volume of letters sent from the U.S. to Germany by immigrants in the 19th century and the general topics covered in them. It includes an appendix, which provides an "adaptation profile" of Martin Weitz, which is divided into 4 aspects of assimilation: cognitive, identificational, social and structural.
