AbstractThe book begins in Part 1 with a tale of three centuries of migration history of Gerrit Hendricks, and his descendants, and ends in Part 7 with another detailed family history of a later American arrival, Jacob Marzolf, and his descendants. In the five parts separating the two family histories, Haller goes through a step-by-step analysis of how these family histories were derived and what motivated the families to make so many changes in locale. Much of the motivation is shown to be related to war, famine, and disease.
