AbstractMichael and Frances Koziczkowski began the Polish settlement of Portage County, soon followed by other Poles, most of them from the then Prussian-occupied regions of northern and western Poland near the cities of Gdansk, Torun and Poznan. In the course of two generations, the Poles became full participants in the mainstream of Portage County community life. In the years since World War I, they have occupied virtually every position of responsibility in the community and, as Americans, made it their own.
