AbstractDetails some of the events, which kept German-American relations in flux during the years 1933-49. The Nazi Bund in the US, Germany's rearmament program and economic policy all contributed to negative public opinion of Germany in the US. After the war, the Berlin aiflift in 1948-9 portrayed that the American people's opinion of Germany had once again begun to sway. This time developing an empathetic tinge to its character, as American's learned of a proud people "enslaved and starving."
