AbstractAffinity between Frederick Jackson Turner and Charles Sealsfield. Frederick Jackson Turner gave the frontier thesis a formal scholarly sanction. Review of Sealsfield work in the light of the cultural narrative of the West and westward expansion and various themes of the frontier thesis and comparison with Turner. Sealsfield is not only an important precursor of the frontier thesis, but in addition an unsettling voice in its ideological deconstruction.
