AbstractThis is a "remarkable and complete travel account" of the Wuerttemberg, Baden, and Swiss emigrants going to the Caucasus in the year 1817 from the diary of one of those who migrated there. Besides a short sketch of the cities, fortresses, and villages lying along the Danube, and their salient points, from Vienna to Bessarabia, besides the customs and habits of the people, etc., in this true account, we have an outstanding and rare document concerning the beginnings of the German settlements on the Black Sea.
