| Abstract | Alphabetically arranged reference guide. For at least a century, the local art scene in Milwaukee was dominated by German influences. Until the turn of the century, most of the better-known local artists had been born and received their training in Germany. The generation of American-born artists which came of age in Milwaukee at the beginning of the twentieth century was also part of the local German-American cultural scene, since most came from German-speaking families and many sought advanced training at the German academies, particularly in Weimar and Munich |
