AbstractThe Austrian-born author's maternal relatives were all in America, he first visited at the age of 24. His further study of the mass emigration from Burgenland to America led to a doctorate, co-founding of the worldwide Burgenlaendische Gemeinschaft, and serving as vice-president of the World Organization of Austrians Abroad. The first edition of Die Amerikawanderung der Burgenlaender was published in 1975, the second in 1992; this third edition is the first to be translated into English.
