AbstractThe Hungarian-Germans who immigrated to North Dakota in the late 1800s and early 1900s came from a district in southeast Austria-Hungary known as the Banat. Since the North Dakota immigrants came to the U.S. during the time when the Banat was part of Hungary, they were recorded in immigration records as being of Hungarian origin though they were German in language and culture.
