AbstractBassler's article refutes the traditional interpretation of the factors determining German immigration to Canada: European push and Canadian pull, such as the Canadian immigration policy. He suggests instead that "the United States was a key factor in virtually every major wave, region, and type of German settlement to Canada since 1776."
