AbstractAustin County, which lies about sixty miles west of Houston, Texas, is the home of the oldest German settlements in the state. In an attempt to record some of the memories that had been passed down from the early pioneers, the author interviewed fourteen residents or former residents of the area in late 1992 and early 1993.
