AbstractThis autobiography combines family history with a remarkably candid account of the author's experiences in politics and government. The family history tells a narrative of a family of Germans from Russia who immigrated to the U.S. in 1887 to homestead near Fessenden in present-day Wells County (p. 1-33). The author gives an engrossing account of rural life, from pioneer days through the Great Depression to the incredible revolution in agriculture the state has experienced in recent years. Streibel also tells the story of his own early years on the farm (p. 34-86).
