AbstractThis volume is a collection of the papers presented at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in October, 1988. The symposium, sponsored by the Max Kade Institute for German-American Studies at the University brought together scholars from Europe and North America to discuss and exchange ideas and research findings on Karl Postl, an Austrian immigrant of the United States who wrote about the United States and became famous on both sides of the Atlantic under the name Charles Sealsfield.
