AbstractThis paper deals with one aspect of a larger project to describe, analyze, and preserve a record of a dialect of German, spoken in the small town of Schoenchen, Kansas as a primary language until the time of World War I, and which gradually reverted to second language status by the end of World War II. A small number of dialect speakers with varying degrees of proficiency haven been identified. All informants are bilingual. One informant has proven himself outstanding in his ability to converse fluently in the dialect. While he is only one of 13 informants total, data from his idiolect form the basis of this paper
