AbstractJ. H. Strasser's 1892 history of New Ulm, "New Ulm in Wort und Bild", originally appeared as an illustrated supplement of the New Ulm Post, a German-language weekly newspaper, edited by Strasser, and consisted of a collection of articles by Strasser, as well as several prominent New Ulmers. This history is clearly a German-American history, but it was intended not only for an audience in America, but also for one in Europe. The work is also somewhat of an advertisement for New Ulm. The authors viewed New Ulm as a successful community, were proud of it and attempted to explain this in term of this history
