AbstractBettina Goldberg's study of cultural change im Milwaukee's Missouri Synod congregations and their schools, 1850-1930, focuses on the gradual shift from German to English. The author shows that although German as a medium and subject of instruction was given up in most of the schools during the anti-German climate of World War I, the war had functioned only as a catalyst, not as the cause for abandoning German.
