AbstractTranscribed diary of Karl Karsten, born in Bruel, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany in 1843. He immigrated to the United States in 1856 and lived in West Bend, Wisconsin. Enlisted in the 26th Regiment of Wisconsin volunteers in August 1862 as a private, and rose to the rank of First Lieutenant. The diary covers the period from October 1862 to May 1865.
