AbstractTwo letters -- one written in 1736 by Andreas Bohni, religious dissenter in Pennsylvania, to a cousin in Europe; the other an "open letter" published in Frankfurt am Main in 1739 and signed by leading German-Americans from the Philadelphia area --"provide useful insights into the motivations, procedures, practical problems, and, especially, hazards of emigration from German-speaking areas to North America in the mid-eighteenth century."
