AbstractMuhlenberg arrived in Philadelphia on November 25, 1742 with five other clergymen to form what is "generally recognized as being the 'Mother Synod' of American Lutheranism."
NotesOriginally written as an introduction to FOCUS '92, a celebration of the 250th anniversary of Henry Melchior Muhlenberg's arrival in Pennsylvania, and was first published in the Partners in the Spirit newsletter of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Part two of this article appears in the Fall 1998 issue of CHIQ.
