AbstractThe Anken Flats buidling was erected in 1893 in Davenport, Iowa, across the street from the Davenport Turner Hall and Opera House. The builder was David Anken, born in Dermstetten, Switzerland, in 1839. The building originally held the Anken & Knaack Cheese Company. It then held the area's first major wholsale ice cream plant, Prinz & Larmore. Article relates the life of Charles Prinz, with a focus on his success in the ice cream business.
