AbstractBiography of Dr. Ernst Schmidt, who was born in 1830 in the Bavarian town of Ebern, and trained as a medical doctor at the University of Wuerzburg. Forced to flee to Switzerland during the revolution of 1848/49, he eventually immigrated to Chicago in June 1857. In 1879 he ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Chicago on a Socialist ticket, and later he was a member of a defense committee during the Haymarket Riot trial. The reviewer finds the book more of interest to family members of the doctor than to the general public.
