AbstractThe German-born Jakob Sala and his two sons, Salomon and Johann (both born in North America), were active printer-publishers in western Pennsylvania and northeastern Ohio in the early nineteenth century. . . . Though thus far little studied, their publishing activities were related to a wide diversity of themes--medical advice and practice, hymnody, devotional literature, newspapers, Fraktur certificates, innovative religious denominations, and ambitious but basically abortive communitarian ventures.
