AbstractExamines an episode that occurred on July 7, 1918, in which "several young men in Chamois, Osage County, Missouri, forced Erwin Walz, the son of a German preacher, to salute and kiss the American flag. Walz received this public punishment for having made derogatory remarks about the local home guard unit and for having [cursed the American flag.]"
