AbstractThis essay will focus on Wilhelm Dibelius and how he influenced Heinz Lehmann and Verein fuer das Deutschtum im Ausland (Society for Germandom Abroad: VDA) through his observations and research in Canada. Dibelius was professor of English studies at the University of Berlin. He traveled throughout Canada in 1928, observing how German nationals were absorbed into society. He took a "personal interest in the progress, struggles and accomplishments of all German speakers. Once in Canada, he was surprised to find so many German speakers and evidence of their influences."
