AbstractBiographical sketch of Hecker, who participated in the 1848/1849 revolution in southwestern Germany and eventually settled in Belleville, Illinois. Like other prominent 1848ers, he supported the Northern States against the Confederation, serving as an officer of a regiment. There are monuments to Hecker in St. Louis and in Cincinnati.
