AbstractNotes from Eisenhower's book, "At Ease," in which he describes his ancestors, family, and childhood through college: "Pres. Eisenhower's gr-gr-gr. grandfather, Hans Nicholas Eisenhauer was born in 1691 in the Palatinate, Germany. The family came to America in 1741. . . . Hans Nicholas Eisenhauer settled first in Lebanon Co., Pennsylvania, in what is now Bethel Township. . . . Dwight D. Eisenhower was directly descended from the Hans Nicholas Eisenhauer's oldest son, Peter." By the time Dwight was born, his branch of the family had relocated to the area of Abilene, Kansas.
