AbstractEmigrants from Osnabrueck in the Kingdom of Hannover "in the 1830s and 1840s reached 11% of the entire German emigration in 1836 and at least 14% in 1845." Examines structures, institutions, motives, and changes in Osnabrueck; what was "advertised" about life in the New World; the politics of emigrating; and what life was like for the immigrants in America in terms of preserving their culture and language.
