AbstractJohannes Weigand (later known as John Wiant) was a 'Hessian mercenary' who served under the British during the American Revolutionary War. . . . John's origins, his arrival in America and his record as a soldier are related elsewhere [see: John Wiant of Albemarle County, Virginia: A Hessian POW in America," The Palatine Immigrant, vol. xxviii, no. 1 (Dec. 2002), pp. 8-12.]. The identity of the mother of his children, however, has remained a mystery." Article presents the authors' "findings and conclusions, based largely on circumstantial evidence."
