| Abstract | An excerpt from the author's book, The Joh. Georg and Eva Harter Family: 250 Years in the United States. 2 vols. Morgantown, PA: Masthof Press, 2006. 1018 pp.Donated by Dennis BoyerPre-immigration information is unknown, but it is believed that Joh. Georg Harter immigrated to the United States during the second quarter of the eighteenth century. He is listed on the 1790 census of Washington County, Maryland, and from Frederick County Lutheran church records it is known that his wife's name was Eva. The article describes the family's major events in Maryland after 1769, the activities of descendants in Franklin County, Virginia after 1792, and the role that religious faith played in the lives of many Harter family members. |
