AbstractA large number of German-speaking immigrants arrived in Texas during the years 1844 through 1847, primarily because of the Society for the Protection of German Immigrants to Texas, or Adelsverein. "The immigration contracts for the Adelsverein, totaling 2,650 individual contracts, are housed at the Texas General Land Office."
