AbstractJohann Jacob Groos was the second German immigrant since the Civil War to head the General Land Office in Texas. Born in Offenbach, Germany in 1824, Groos and his wife moved to Texas in 1845. He served in the Confederate Militia during the Civil War, was mayor of New Braunfels, and was elected Texas Land Commissioner.
