AbstractImmigration from Ticino began in the middle 1850s; it is estimated that some 30,000 people, mainly men, were part of this migration. Ticino Swiss settled almost exclusively in California, and predominantly in rural parts of the state, pursuing work as dairy farmers or in vineyards.
