AbstractOften slighted as being incompetent, Sigel's success at the Battle of Pea Ridge, Arkansas, was the high point of his military career, and shortly thereafter he was promoted to major-geneal by President Abraham Lincoln. This article examines whether the credit for victory at the battle belongs more with General Samuel Curtis.
