AbstractDescribes the life of Emma Murck Altgelt, who married Ernst Hermann Altgelt and came to Comfort, Texas, in 1855. In 1863, a pro-Union vigilante group threatened Ernst Altgelt; at the insistence of Emma, Ernst fled to Germany, returning to his wife and children in 1865. The family soon moved to San Antonio, and then to Boerne, Kendall County. Ernst died in 1878, and Emma in 1922. Her memoirs were published in 1930.
