AbstractFritz Postel was a German immigrant from Holstein to Davenport, Iowa in 1872, after he had fought for Bismarck and Germany in the Franco-Prussian War. A monument to German-American veterans of this war was erected with reports of the great dedication ceremony in 1907 in Davenport's Washington Square. Just ten years later, the anti-German sentiment as a result of World War I resulted in the destruction of the monument.
