AbstractIn November 1733 former subjects of the prince-archbishop of Salzburg, expelled on account of their Protestant Lutheran beliefs, traveled to the United States and settled on the Savannah River, founding the settlement of Ebenezer. In the early years of the Georgia colony, Ebenezer was the most successful settlement in the colony, more than the capital of Savannah, and its residents are remembered for their support of Georgia's ban on the importation of enslaved Africans into the colony.
