| Notes | On title page: Abridged and edited with introduction, notes and vocabulary by Bernhard Alexander Uhlendorf, PhD., assistant professor of German, University of California, Southern Branch. Sealsfield is a German-American author. According to the Preface, the full novel, "Nathan, der Squatter-Regulator, oder der erste Amerikaner in Texas," is abridged here to provide textbook-appropriate length, omit certain parts of the narrative which serve to link it with four other stories, provide context by including the last of [the preceding book] "Pflanzerleben," and describe in not-too-difficult language, events of frontier life in Louisiana when it was still part of a larger territory. Sealsfield is a German-American author. Includes bibliographic references. Formerly owned by Martin Luther College Library, New Ulm, MN. |
