AbstractAfter sketching the military and missionary presence of Swiss abroad since 1500, this book features three main participatory types of presence: The first is based on the "Exchange" of goods and skills between two nations mainly in Europe (and today worldwide); the second on "Dominance" as a participation in European colonial and imperial rule in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia; and the third as an involvement in processes of "De-settlement-Resettlement" involving the expulsion or destruction of indigenous peoples and their replacement with Europeans as in North America, parts of South America, Australia, and New Zealand.--Provided by publisher
