His father killed on battlefield in 1866, his mother died in 1880. After completing theol. studies in Breklum he immigrated 1884 to USA. Entered Wartburg Seminary in Nov. 1884. Accepted a call to Russell, Kans, in July 1885, ordained there on Sept. 27. Married Bertha Reuter in 1886. Was pastor of St. John's Church in Eau Claire 1890-1933. Pres. of Wis.
