MKI AnnotationGottlieb C. Berkemeier was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, September 25, 1855, and is the son of Rev. William and Lena (Nielender) Berkemeier. [Rev. Wilhelm Heinrich Berkemeier, 18 Oct 1820 - 7 Mar 1899, was born in Oerlinghausen, Kreis Lippe, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. A Lutheran pastor who emigrated to America in 1847, he served congregations in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Wheeling, West Virginia; and Mount Vernon, New York. He was the superintendent of the German Lutheran Emigrant Home in New York from 1866 to 1899.] Rev. Gottlieb C. Berkemeier was a Lutheran minister who who became director of the Wartburg Orphanage in Mount Vernon, New York in 1885. He married Susette Kraeling in August 1883.
