AbstractGalinsky's paper discusses the the role of Germans in forming the name "America" and putting it into use. It also discusses German map-making and globe-making, South German financiers of exploration, German navigators and explorers in South America, and German contribution to the establishment of "noble savage" imagery. His paper includes several illustrations.
